Welcome to our School Council 2025-2026
A school council provides a meaningful way in which learners can voice their opinions and have their views and needs taken into account in decisions that impact them. They provide a means to listen to learners and to act upon what they say. School councils are also a way of providing learners with the opportunity to develop participation skills, so that they become active citizens in the school community and beyond.
We value the opinions of our learners and our school council gives learners a forum to share these opinions with our school council teacher representative, headteacher and other members of staff. Article 12 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) states that every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously. At Bryn Elian we feel this is vital in supporting school improvement and providing meaningful opportunities for our learners.
At Ysgol Bryn Elian, our school council is a group from Years 7 to 13 that represents the views of all our learners. The group are elected by their year groups to represent them at the beginning of each academic year. Our school council meet every half term to discuss any issues and develop action plans moving forward.
The school council gives our learners the opportunity to have their voices heard and be part of the whole school community. It helps them to make decisions about school life and organise projects that provide the best educational environment for all learners in Bryn Elian. Learners are able to make suggestions via their year group representatives or through the QR codes that are displayed around school.
